Blogging not only takes a lot of time, but it also requires you to be aware of the importance of timing in regards to your content and resources. There will be days when you’re inspired to write and publish things immediately, however, the better you plan ahead the more freedom, flexibility and traffic you’ll gain.
When you have posts and resources planned out ahead of time for your blog it is easy for you to stay on track ensuring that you’re moving forward with your blog. If you don’t take time to brainstorm ideas for the future of your blog you’re more likely to fall so far behind that you’ll consider giving up altogether.
As a homeschool blogger one of the most important things to remember is that most homeschool moms plan ahead. When you keep that in mind it will help you with editorial calendars, social media scheduling and more. While this is one of the main reasons why you, as a homeschool blogger, need to plan ahead, it isn’t the only one.
6 Reasons Bloggers Need to Plan Ahead
- Life happens
By planning ahead it allows you freedom to take a day or two off when life happens. Your homeschool journey make require more attention for a time, your family may need to take an unplanned trip or you might just need a break from blogging. When you have your blogging plans made ahead of time it gives you the ability to do all of these and much more!
- Seasonal/Holiday Content
If bloggers don’t plan ahead then they will miss out on potential traffic and/or sales when holidays or a new season comes around. When sharing holiday or seasonal themed content the best way to have the most reach is to ensure that you’re creating content ahead of time for homeschool moms that plan ahead and sharing it last minute on social media for homeschool moms that don’t.
- Dry Spells
Even as a writer or creator you will have dry spells where the words just won’t come or creativity fails to show up. When you plan ahead you’re less likely to run out of content or resources to create for your blog when dry spells do appear.
- Guest Posting Opportunities
It is important to share your voice, wisdom and content by guest posting on other blogs. If you plan your own content ahead you’ll have more chances to guest post when the opportunities arise.
- Flexibility
When you plan your blog’s content ahead of time you have the flexibility to move things around. This is especially helpful for time when you have a last minute inspiration that you want to post or create. When you do post or create something you hadn’t planned for it gives you more content for a longer period of time than you originally had planned — if you plan ahead!
- Affiliate Sales/Promotions
Affiliate sales and promotions provide income opportunities for bloggers. While some companies/bloggers provide their sale/promotion information ahead of time, others throw their promotions/sales together last minute. By planning your personal blog content ahead of time you’ll be able to incorporate sales/promotions easily if you have the information early. For last minute promotions/sales you’ll be able to work them in because you have your blog content ready ahead of time.
Planning ahead for your blog is the best business decision you can make for yourself as a blogger. By doing so you’ll reap dividends that benefit not only you, but your family and your readers as well.
