Running a business or website is difficult enough without having to worry about paying for the perfect image for every project. For our business, we do purchase many graphics, and we also take quite a few of our own photos. However, especially when we were first starting out and even now sometimes we need to save money and find something that we can use for free even though our project is a commercial one. So we started looking at every site we can find that offers free commercial use stock photography. And we’ve compiled the lists here so that everyone can benefit!

Please note: Some of these sites still require attribution even though the image is free. Attribution is when you note the name of the photographer in the caption of your photo or at the bottom of your post. If you are using the image in an ebook, you can add attribution on the copyright page. Please follow the TERMS OF USE for each of the sites below and do not assume you can use the images without attribution.

Splitshire – Free for commercial use with no copyright restrictions.
Picography – on the home page it reads “Free hi-resolution photos. Use them however you like.” Check the Terms of Use to be sure however at the time of this post they are literally free for any use except claiming them as your own work.
Foodies Feed – while he also has photo packages for sale, he has huge collections of free food images and has added other categories as well. No attribution, just free.
Magdeline – This site has a beautiful collection and allows you to search only those with a CC0 License. Some images require attribution so I like to start my search by clicking on CC0 License on the right hand column to make sure that is all I see.
Public Domain Image – All of the photos on this site have been released to the public domain.
JE Shoots — on the front page it states “Photos for business or personal use in high resolution for free.” and the FAQ confirms this.
Cupcake From the website: “All photos here on www.cupcake.nilssonlee.se are licensed under the Creative Commons license CC0, which means that you are free to use the images without any costs. You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking for permission.”
Flickr Creative Commons Collection – these images are free but may require attribution.
Solate – This site curates the best Creative Commons 2.0 (attribution required) images from around the web and they are beautiful. If you don’t mind giving attribution this is a good choice.
Travel Coffee Book — All photos are license cc0.
Plixs — Search a bank of 1000’s of free photos for commercial use.
StokPic – Free for all uses, no attribution required.
Best Stock Photos Free is a collection of “useful images” which are all free and have a Creative Commons license. Check the license for each photo.
Good Free Photos – All of the photos are taken by a single photographer and are licensed public domain – however she clearly states that there are no model releases so don’t grab pics with people in them.
Kaboom Pics – Free for all use, no attribution required.
Designer’s Pics – From the website: “FREE Hi-Res photos for your personal & commercial use. Attribution not required!”
Gratisography – Free high-resolution pictures you can use on your personal and commercial projects.
Free Mage Bank – These are totally free and free for commercial use.
Tinyography – Surprisingly beauitful iPhone pictures you can use for free for commercial use. The website states no copyright restrictions.
ISO Republic – Free photos and art for commercial use.
Snapwire SNAPS – Free photos for commercial use. Seven new images added every seven days.
New Old Stock – Vintage photos from the public archives free of known copyright restrictions.
Public Domain Archive – Free vintage and new images for commercial use.
Life of Pix – No Copyright Restrictions.
Death to the Stock Photo – Free, Commercial Use but requires signing up for the email newsletter. Premium (paid) packs are available. The free photos are beautiful!
Jay Mantri Photos – Seven New Free Photos every Thursday.
The Pattern Library – Switch to grid view to save your eyes. These patterns could come in very handy for pinnable images.
CLKER.com – Free clipart for any use.
Get Refe — has a large collection of free photos with royalty-free license. They also sell images. This link takes you to the free collection.
