SEO – it’s a three-letter word that brings many bloggers to their knees. They know they need to do it, but they’re at a loss as to what it is and how to start! Let’s take a look at SEO for bloggers…
SEO for Bloggers: Defined
According to SEObook.com, search engine optimization [SEO] is the art and science of publishing information and marketing it in a manner that helps search engines understand your information is relevant to relevant search queries.
What does that mean?
SEO is the practice of making your online material friendly for search engines {think Google} so your stuff gets found more easily by others searching for topics relating to your material.
SEO for bloggers means making your post title, heading, text, and photos all point to one key idea so that Google can easily find the answer to the question, “What is this post about?”
SEO for Bloggers: Tips
While “cute” blog post titles are fun for you, Google doesn’t translate “cute” into “descriptive.” Try to title your posts as an answer to a question that a reader might ask and find your post.
i.e. This post is titled, “SEO for Bloggers: The Basics,” in hopes that someone searching something along the lines of “what does seo look like for bloggers” would find this post via their search engine.
Add titles and alt tags to your photos – and use words that match your post’s keywords and key ideas.
i.e. IMG102 won’t result in search engine traffic, but “SEO for Bloggers” will.
Not every post needs to be optimized for SEO, so don’t stress out! Posts like family updates, weekly recaps, and counting your blessings probably won’t turn up in a search engine list, and that’s OK.
Posts that you want to focus your SEO efforts on are product reviews, tips and tutorials, recipes, and other topical posts that will answer a question that someone might have and ask a search engine.
